Codex First Marks™

The Birth Codex records identity at the moment of origin. But a life does not stop at origin. Codex First Marks are the ongoing capture layer of the system — the structured record of what the data could not predict at birth: the first sound that became a word, the first face recognized across a room, the first step taken without assistance.

Fifty-two cards, each shaped like a baby toe — a reference to the physical impression recorded at birth by the Footprint Kit. Each card is a threshold. Not a memory. A record of becoming, held in the same archival register as the record that began everything.

Foil-stamped glyphs from the Codex symbol system on premium archival card stock. Subtitled ‘MY Toes’ in reference to the first physical mark.

These are not milestones to photograph. They are milestones to record.

The Record, Not the Announcement

Not announcements. Entries.

There is an entire industry built around announcing milestones — posting them, framing them, printing them on banners. That industry is not this. Codex First Marks are not designed to be shared. They are designed to be recorded.

The distinction matters. An announcement is performed for others. An entry is made for the record. Every card in this set is structured as a formal entry: a threshold identified, a date assigned, a place in the permanent archive confirmed. The first time a name is recognized across a room is not a photo opportunity. It is a moment that belongs in the same system as the Codex itself.

These are not milestones to photograph. They are milestones to record. The difference is what determines whether they survive.

→ These moments do not repeat. The record does not make itself.
Completion

Fifty-two thresholds. One continuous record.

The set contains fifty-two cards — one for each week of the first year. This is not an arbitrary count. It reflects the architecture of early development: the pace at which a child's identity, as established in the Codex, begins to express itself in observable, recordable form.

Each card marks a completed moment. Each completed moment belongs to a sequence. Together, they form a continuous record of the first year of a recorded life — the origin data from the Codex at one end, and the unfolding of that identity across fifty-two documented thresholds at the other.

A full year of recorded firsts is not a collection of memories. It is the second document in a permanent archive that began at birth.

→ Together, they form a complete first-year record.
System Integration

Every first mark has a place in the permanent record.

Each recorded threshold does not exist in isolation. The Codex Journal receives it — the parent writes what the card cannot hold: the surrounding context, the sensation of the moment, the meaning assigned in real time. The Codex Companion provides interpretive context, connecting each milestone back to the identity dimensions established at birth.

MYA stores and sequences every entry — building a living archive that grows alongside the Codex, accessible for the lifetime of the person it records. The first step taken without assistance becomes a permanent node in the same system that holds the celestial alignment of the moment of birth.

These are not two separate products. First Marks are the continuation of the Codex — the same archival register, extended across the first year of a recorded life.

→ Feeds into Codex Journal, Codex Companion, and MYA.
